Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page!
I’m excited to tell you that I have been selected to volunteer overseas with VSO on an International Citizen Service placement. ICS works
with communities that have specifically requested for help. It also aims to inspire young people in the UK and overseas to become active citizens who are passionate about long term community development.
The first part of my placement is a challenge to raise £800 towards the work of VSO and their ICS partners. The money raised will go towards enabling the overall costs of ICS, ensuring they can to continue sending youth volunteers to the developing world to make a lasting difference in disadvantaged communities.
Any contribution from you will make a real difference to the
lives of people in developing countries, so please dig deep!
So what exactly will I be doing?....I will be living with a host family who will kindly take me in, looking after me, feeding me and giving me a heads up on the culture and language. During the week I will be going into a secondary school and here I will be supporting the teaching of science to students committed to breaking out the cycle of poverty. I will show them what they can achieve, what they are capable of, pushing them and helping them help themselves. It is key to raise interest in science and mathematics and support an inclusive learning environement to limit the mind boggling number of drop outs. On weekends I will have the time to work on a side project. Here I will engage with the community at a different angle, where I'm hoping to educate and raise awareness about HIV/AIDS as I really believe this is important right now!
Kwali Area Council still faces several developmental issues such as the availability of basic amenities (constant electricity and access to water), educational support services such as furniture, equipment, textbooks and so on, as well as adequate health care facilities. So you can see the importance of the work being carried out here to boost the community as much as possible. I am determined to help the people who really need it the most.
Thanks for your support!
