A few people have asked what I might like as a present for my 50th birthday which is really unexpected and generous, but I’m stumped because I’m a lucky guy who doesn’t need much and there are kids we all know who would give anything to be asked, “What would you like as a present?” so this is what I’ve come up with…
I used to serve with a top bloke called Mark Sturgess who is sadly no longer with us but he left behind a great little boy called Sonny. Mark used to put a smile on everyone's face but when he couldn't do that for his boy anymore this amazing charity stepped in to help Sonny and his Mum out.
They send Sonny gifts/vouchers at Christmas time, his birthday & Remembrance Day. Eggs at Easter time too. They've had weekend breaks and sent Sonny some wonderful gifts, including a memorial medal with Marks name, rank and service number, a photo frame to put Marks photo in , cuddly toys, etc...
They put on great Christmas parties and other on line events.
In the early days after Mark had died, Debbie would receive regular phone calls to check in on them both.
There is even more on offer for those that need it but these are just a few examples of how our donations can really make a difference.
A lot of service personnel made the ultimate sacrifice for us to have what we've got now and their kids deserve help as much as any.
Thanks for reading.
