Story
Remember our gorgeous boy Simon, the five month old pup, who had health problems and was adopted from us in March? Well, he has landed on all four paws with his new family, who have gone to great lengths to help him settle into his new home and achieve his full potential. He is coming along very well and is gaining in confidence and amazing his family every day. He also has a new name, Benji.
We were told that he potentially had hydrocephalus and was partially sighted but there was no formal diagnosis and their vet thought it could be something else. His family arranged for him to be referred to Fitzpatrick Referrals where he was seen yesterday by a neurological specialist vet. He has been diagnosed with a number of conditions on examination, including:
total blindness,
ventrolateral "sunset" strabismus,
nystagmus,
domed head,
hypermetric gait
FPR have recommended that he have an MRI scan to confirm his diagnosis and to formulate a treatment plan such as whether a ventricular peritoneal shunt would be of benefit to him.
Due to the fact that he was known to have an underlying problem when they adopted him, their insurance company won’t cover the cost of the consultation or the scan which is likely to cost in the region of £2.5k before any treatment is even considered.
We remain committed to supporting Benji and his furever family and believe this gorgeous young man deserves every opportunity to live his best life.
