Kristian Mayland is raising money for Cavendish Cancer Care
Story
The Peaks Epic Sportive is a one day endurance cycling event in the peak district that encompasses 4000 vertical metres of climbing over 166km. I initially entered this as a personal challenge, however "during a medical school placement"(or while volunteering?) at the Cavendish centre I have been inspired by the stories I have heard, and the support given to families in Sheffield in times of need, therefore I have decided to make this ride a fundraising challenge too!
Last year the Cavendish supported more than 1600 local families affected by cancer at both the Wilkinson street base(, the Cavendish Centre) and directly on the wards at both Weston Park Hospital and at the Palliative Care unit at Northern General Hospital. Every one of those people were able to pick up the phone and get an appointment within 5 working days enabling them to access a free of charge package of care and support centred around their individual needs. The Cavendish only receives enough statutory funding to keep their doors open for two weeks each year! The remainder of the year is entirely self-funded.
This is my first ever sportive and first event on a road bike so it is a big undertaking! Please donate as much as you can to such a worthy cause, and help promote happiness and wellbeing in families affected by cancer across Sheffield through the Cavendish.
