Kitty learns 'Head, Shoulders, Knees & Toes', 21 February 2021
The pandemic has affected our charity and the families who rely on us very badly. We have had to close our doors for the best part of a year now and fundraising events have been cancelled. We are relying on the kindness of our supporters to help us.

Story

Thank you so much to all of Kitty's very generous sponsors, completely in awe of how much she has raised. For context, Footprints needs to raise £200,000 a year and every single penny raised helps to make a difference. I do just want to add, please don't feel any pressure to donate, the main reason to continue sharing these videos is to spread a bit of Kitty sparkle in the grey of lockdown.

For those of you who are new to our fundraising page, the next month sees both Conductive Education Awareness Week (15th-21st March) and Down Syndrome Awareness Day (21st March). To raise awareness for conductive education and funds for Footprints, Kitty is learning the actions too 'Head, Shoulders, Knees & Toes'. We are sharing weekly update links on this page to videos showing her progress. Not expecting her to nail it, but think it’ll be lot’s of fun and useful body part identification as well. I also think that Kitty could teach us all a lesson in self-congratulatory clapping!!

Today marks the end of our family challenge, and it's World Down Syndrome Awareness Day, almost like we planned it!! So this is our last training video, aware that I am in for some serious backlash from Kitty's fan base, so I am making a really concerted effort to up my social media presence and keep spreading "Kitty's sparkle". Thank you so much to everyone who has donated, we really are completely overwhelmed by everyone's generosity. We've thanked everyone (hopefully, so sorry if we've missed you!!). There have been a few anonymous donors - so using this platform to say thank you to them as well. Kitty and I were back at Footprints for the first time in person this week for a few months, and all of the staff made a point of passing on their massive thanks to us, and all of Kitty's sponsors. We're going to keep up the practise, but might mix it up now with a bit of Old MacDonald!! Here is the link to her week 5 training video (https://youtube.com/shorts/Q5ymshBTciI).

Kitty attends weekly sessions with Footprints, a Nottingham based charity, who's mission is to provide Conductive Education and other services to help children with mobility and communication problems develop the skills they need to thrive and achieve their potential. Footprints have had to cope with the constant needs of their children with little or no support for the best part of a year. Footprints future still remains uncertain unless they continue to secure fundraising.

Conductive Education is based on a ‘simple’ concept of human potential; meaning that everyone has the capability to learn and develop irrespective of their starting point. People with disabilities frequently spend much of their time being assessed for what they ‘cannot do’ rather than what potential they have. Conductors are highly trained to observe this potential in a person; to nurture their development and devise structured programmes to enable success.
