Story

My inspiration to run the London Marathon came when I volunteered to run respite breaks for The Bristol Children’s Help Society (BCHS) during my time at University. I experienced first-hand the positive impact these breaks had on the most disadvantaged children, aged 6-11 years old, in the local Bristol area.

During their time at the camp the children learn to swim, enjoy sport in the playground, visit the beach and go on adventure trips. This gives the children a chance to extend their horizons in a safe and stimulating environment beyond their challenging lives at home. Throughout their stay they get psychological and emotional support from the volunteers which helps them to grow in confidence and build the resilience needed to cope with their lives.

BCHS is a small charity that relies entirely on donations to continue their excellent work. Each year they run approximately 8 camps which gives 300 children a 5 day break from their difficult personal situations. The children are referred by schools, social services and local charities. It costs £190 for a child to attend the 5 day camp which includes £50 for their food. This year the charity needs to repair and replace vital playground and technology equipment.

My aim is to raise £1,000 to help BCHS continue their vital support for children across Bristol. All donations will make a huge difference to the children. I am extremely grateful for every donation – thank you very much.
