Story
Thanks for visiting my JustGiving page!
Faced with a 'lockdown' birthday this year, without any of the usual celebrations with friends, I thought it might instead be a good opportunity to get some extra support for a personal cause of mine. So as an alternative to cards and gifts, drinks and dinner or trips out this summer etc, please consider making a generous donation to my chosen charity, Give A Kidney.
Give A Kidney really helped me during my own donor journey, and as a Trustee of the charity I try to use my experience to support other living kidney donors. Like so many charities, this is a really difficult time for both the organisation and its beneficiaries who all face a lot of uncertainty.
No one should die for want of a kidney. But around 5,000 people in the UK right now are waiting for a kidney transplant to transform their life. A third of those waiting for a kidney transplant in the UK are from black, Asian and minority ethnic communities. Generally, these patients wait years longer for a kidney transplant than white patients if they are fortunate enough to receive an organ from a donor. Sadly, hundreds of people each year simply die waiting. Living kidney donors provide an amazing lifeline. But with kidney transplant surgeries and donor workups currently suspended for much of 2020 due to the Coronavirus pandemic, the need for Give A Kidney's awareness raising and support for living donors will be even greater when the NHS resumes transplantation. So please give generously to allow the charity to continue its work.
THANK YOU!!
