Story
Today is my 50th birthday! (I can't believe I am saying that out loud.)
If I could be granted just one wish for the day, it would be that my mom was still here to celebrate this milestone with us (it has now been 10 years of birthdays without her). If it wasn't for my mom, I wouldn't be who I am today; so, I am raising funds in her honor for The Bill Richards Center for Healing in the Aquilino Cancer Center at Shady Grove Medical Center in an effort to help change cancer care.
Earlier this year, I had an opportunity to meet with a very special team of passionate caregivers at the Center and learn more about the innovative work they are doing to help patients, caregivers and family deal with the psychological impact of cancer. Receiving a cancer diagnosis is scary for the patient and family, and the emotional toll is devastating. The therapies being offered at The Center are cutting-edge and I believe my mom and family would have benefitted greatly from them when we were going through her cancer journey.
While I know my one wish of having my mom here with me today is not something that can be granted, I know I can positively impact the journey for patients/families by supporting the programs and services offered at The Center. (Providing support has been so healing for me.)
Please consider joining me by making a donation to The Center in honor of my birthday, in memory of my mom, and in support of changing cancer care.
