We empower local people in SW Edinburgh to manage their physical and mental health

Story

Finally the time has almost come……On Saturday 18th June I get to (hopefully) tick off my bucket list race. Not long after starting running in 2016 I knew I wanted to run Ultra Marathons and The West Highland Way was the one I aspired to. It will be my 16th Ultramarathon but definitely my biggest challenge to date. 95 miles with 14,706 ft of climb which I aim to complete in around 24 hours!

Before I took up running, I was 5 stone heavier, unhealthy, unfit and unhappy. Becoming more active changed my outlook on the importance of physical activity, after experiencing the transformative effect it had on my wellbeing.

So, I have decided to put my crazy running antics to good use and am hoping to raise some much needed funds for The Health Agency to help address Health Inequalities in South West Edinburgh. I believe that everyone should be able to access support to improve their wellbeing through physical activity regardless of where they live or their financial status.

The Health Agency seeks to enable local people to take action that makes a positive impact on their own and their community's physical, emotional and mental wellbeing. They offer a range of services including counselling and cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), healthy eating, physical activity, volunteering, complementary therapies, and support with cancer and long-term conditions.

In my role as Physical Activity Coordinator at The Health Agency, I am fortunate enough to be able to help people discover the benefits of being more physically active and witness the impact this has on their physical, emotional and mental wellbeing. With the money I raise I plan to offer more accessible physical activity opportunities for people living in South West Edinburgh. In particular providing transport to take groups of service users to discover the beauty of areas such as The Pentland Hills and further afield. Any donation you can spare will be greatly appreciated.
