Story
In July 2013 my wife Anita was diagnosed with breast cancer. At the time of the diagnosis she was a healthy 52 year old lady who had never smoked. She had also not had a drink of alcohol for over 25 years.
Following 6 months of chemotherapy she had a mastectomy in February 2014, followed by 6 weeks of daily radiotherapy. I am pleased to say that she is now in remission, however it will be 5 years of taking a cocktail of drugs before she can be confirmed as cancer free.
I have been looking at ways of saying, what will always be an inadequate 'thank you' to the wonderful people who have treated my wife over the past year, and continue to provide care to others in our position. The most obvious thing to do as I have been a trombone player for most of my life is to use the skills that I have to organise a charity event, featuring trombones, to raise money for the Breast Cancer Campaign.
I am grateful to the Butlins Mineworkers Brass Band Championships for alllowing me to organise a massed trombone choir that will perform at the festival in January 2015.
I am inviting all trombone players who wish to take part in the choir to donate to my Just Giving account. The funds raised will be donated to Breast Cancer Campaign, through the wonderful ladies of the Boobs and Brass organisation who have already raised over £125, 000 for the charity.
Thank You - Kevin Holdgate
