Debbie Morris, Julia Barker and Claudette Murley are raising money for The Cots for Tots Appeal, supporting the work of the Special Care Baby Unit at St Michael’s Hospital, Bristol
The Unit cares for babies born as early as 23 weeks and those requiring life-saving surgery. It is the only unit of its kind in the South West of England and South Wales equipped and able to perform complex surgery
and provide intensive care to the region’s sickest, most premature babies.
Debbie's Story
My son, Mackenzie (known as Kenzie) was born at 23+6 weeks (16 weeks early) in September 2013 and spent the first 6 months of his life in the Unit. This was an extremely difficult time and if it wasn't for the amazing medical team and the support provided by Cots 4 Tots Kenzie would not be with us today.
The Cots 4 Tots appeal not only funds essential, life saving medical equipment for the unit. It also funds a 'home from home' 12 bedroom house 2 minutes walk from the hospital which enables parents to stay close to their critically ill children.
We have personal experience of both the amazing medical care and the practical support that the Cots 4 Tots house brings. Words cannot describe how it feels to give birth and know that your child may not survive and, in our case, Kenzie's life was saved 3 times!
Kenzie has recently turned two. He is a very special little boy, with a very bright future ahead of him and, apart for the fact that he's still very small, catching up with his development and is fed by a gastric feeding tube, you would never know that he had a bumpy start in life.
2 of my wonderful friends, Claudette Murley and Julia Barker, have very kindly agreed to jump with me (well strapped to their own instructor!) so I'd like to say a massive thank you to these two fantastic ladies. Both great friends and big fans of the little man! They've got me through some tough times over the last couple of years and it will certainly help me having them there for the big day. Big hugs xx
Please help us to support Cots 4 Tots and give us a really great incentive to overcome our nerves and jump out of a plane at 13,000 feet (that's 2 miles high) !
Cots for Tots raise money for
- state of the art emergency life saving equipment, including essential incubators
- funding the newborn emergency stabilisation and transfer team (NEST), based at St Michael’s Hospital, to stabilise and transport sick and premature babies for expert treatment and care.
- funding the Cots for Tots House, a dedicated 12 bedroom house providing free accommodation for families of sick and premature babies from all over the region, allowing them to be close to their babies at this difficult and emotional time.
Thank You.
Debbie, Claudette and Julia
