Story
Children North East began in 1891 to help street children living in the slums of Newcastle and Gateshead. 123 year on Children North East is still fighting child poverty.
132,000 children (that's a shocking 1 in 4 children) are officially living in poverty in the North East. Imagine your child never able to go on a school trip, being bullied because you can't afford the proper school uniform, going without meals or not being able to afford to have the heating on in the winter.
Children North East also supports families who are homeless, perhaps because they have been victims of domestic violence or have been evicted because of rent arrears. Children who find themselves homeless have often had to leave behind their wider family, friends, pets and toys as well as moving schools and it can be a scary time for them.
In 2013 Children North East services reached 5,788 children and young people and 934 disadvantaged families and supported them to make changes to improve things for their children.
Every penny you donate to Children North East stays in the region to help disadvantaged children and young people have better lives.
