Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.
After a long battle with ovarian cancer, our lovely mum and mother-in-law, Debra Goldsworthy, died at the ellenor hospice on Tuesday 9th June 2015. She was 58 and had led a healthy, active life before the disease struck. She was a wonderful mother and person.
After the emotion of mum's diagnoses, treatments and then the difficult, often heartbreaking nine days we had spent caring for her at home as her condition deteriorated, it might sound odd to say we look back on mum's last three days, at the ellenor, with fondness. The hospice is a beautiful and cheerful place. We were given the space to laugh and cry, as a family, without having to worry about other things.
We have always been supporters of the ellenor, but now, having used the services ourselves, we feel as if we have experienced something really special. In order to keep the current services running £6.7million needs to be raised every year. Therefore we, as a family have started fundraising for the ellenor so, we (Kelly and Graham) have signed up for the sky dive on 12th September. We have never done anything like this before, but we have been inspired to by mum's bravery through her illness and by the gratitude we have for the ellenor staff.
Our whole family - of all ages will also join hundreds of others for the Twilight Walk on Friday 18th September. This is a great chance to commemorate mum's life together. The walk (a choice of either 8kn or 12 km) starts at the Cyclopark in and includes some stop offs along the way and a hot chocolate at the end. If anyone wishes to join us on that you would be very welcome.
