Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page. I am taking part in 4 of the 8 legs of the Clipper Round The World Yacht Race 2019-2020 as a crew member in the team UNICEF yacht. My legs will be Leg 2: across the South Atlantic from Punta del Este in Uruguay to Cape Town, South Africa; Leg 3 across the Southern Ocean from Cape Town to Freemantle, Western Australia; Leg 6 up the Chinese coast from Zhuhai to Qingdao and then across the North Pacific from Qingdao to Seattle USA; and finally Leg 8 across the North Atlantic from New York to Bermuda and then onto Derry-Londonderry and home to London. The entire Race is 40,000 nautical miles and takes 1q1 months. It started from London on 1st September 2019 and you can follow it via my blog (www.keithsclippertadventure.com) or via the official website at www.clipperroundtheworld.com You can also register as a Crew Supporter via this website or follow the Race on Facebook at Clipper Round The World Yacht Race.

UNICEF is the charity partner of the Clipper Race and we, all 11 crews, hope to raise more than £500,000 during this latest edition of the Race to support vulnerable children in the incredible difficulties and challenges they face. UNICEF is not funded by the United Nations and relies solely on donations to deliver incredible services:

- vaccinate almost half the world's children ….. but millions are still in danger. Every DAY 15,000 children under five die, usually because they don't get the health care and life-saving vaccines they need;

- supply over 80% of the world's life-saving food for malnourished children. UNICEF has helped reduce the number of children affected by malnutrition by nearly 50 million since 1990..... but every 12 seconds a child somewhere in the world dies because of causes related to malnutrition;

- supply education materials for almost 47 million children over the last 3 years.

Mike Penrose, UNICEF UK's Executive Director says, "I cannot wait to see our UNICEF yacht in action and meet the team who will be spearheading UNICEF's message on this immense voyage around the world."

For every £1 you give to UNICEF, 70p is spent DIRECTLY on programmes for children, 29p is spent to raise another £1 and 1 penny is spent on governance.
