Hello, my name is Kayden and I am 3 years old. I was diagnosed with Spastic Diplegic Cerebral Palsy when I was 15 months old.
This means that the muscles in my legs are so tight I'm unable to straighten them making it difficult for me to do simple things like sitting on the floor with my legs out front of me, standing or walking on my own.
I have learnt how to move around with the use of a walking frame, but I would love to be able to participate in tasks at school, like football or sports day!
There is an operation called Selective Dorsal Rhizotomy (SDR) which could help me achieve my dream to walk. The operation involves removing vertebrae in my lower back to allow access to the nerve roots. The surgeon would then send electrical pulses through the nerve roots using a functional electrical stimulation machine to find the abnormal roots causing the spasticity and then cut them. This operation aims to achieve a long-term reduction in spasticity, improving my mobility and increasing my independence.
The operation however is just the start of the process. Following the procedure I will require intense physiotherapy for a period of 2 years.
For me to have the suregery I need to raise around £80,000. I really hope you can help me acheive my dream of being able to walk.
Thank you
Kayden
Should we exceed the target amount (or if we do not raise enough funds,or if they cannot be used for any other reason) the funds raised will go to the general funds of Tree of Hope to assist other sick children.
