Story
Hello! Welcome to our fundraising page!
Diane, Jennifer and I are running the Great North 10k in July 2017 to raise money for the MS Trust!
My dearly loved and missed Mum passed away seven years ago from cancer, but she also suffered from Multiple Sclerosis and was diagnosed with MS about three years prior to the cancer diagnosis. For those unfamiliar with the disease, it is a neurological condition where the insulating covers of nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord are damaged. The cause is still unknown and there is currently no cure, although research is progressing at a rapid rate so there is hope for the future. As the central nervous system links everything your body does, there are dozens of varying symptoms with MS, but depending on which type the sufferer has, it can lead to extreme health complications such as complete immobility and loss of speech – in the space of a few years my Mum went from walking to being in a wheelchair and her speech was affected as well.
MS is a scary and life-changing diagnosis, which is why charities such as The MS Trust are so important. The MS Trust supports the funding of research and helps MS sufferers manage their symptoms and lifestyle changes, with an emphasis on supporting specialist MS nurses and other medical professionals specialising in MS, a vital resource. For those interested in finding out more about the charity you can visit their website: https://www.mstrust.org.uk/.
Utilising and making the most of our mobility, something denied to so many MS sufferers, seems like a fitting way to raise money for the
MS Trust. My lovely best friends are running with me and we are hoping to raise as much as we can.
As pretty much everyone who knows me can attest to, I am NOT a runner. I’m not really an exerciser full stop. I’m generally a lot more interested in reading and eating and drinking and sitting down. Not only is this going to be a real challenge for me, I am doing it alongside two gorgeous and painfully athletic twin sisters who between them have done triathlons and half marathons! So please take pity on me and sponsor us 😊
Thank you so much for any and all support – it’s hugely appreciated.
