Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
This Lent I'm going to be cycling. A lot. In fact, I'm giving up taking the train, Tube or bus for any journey within the North Circular, with the Thames as the southern boundary. (I already don't drive.)
St John's has been a fantastic church community for me over the last couple of years, and we're doing a bunch of work in the local community that's important and very much in keeping with this year's #LiveLent: Care for God's Creation challenge. We recently started a Soup Garden, to grow vegetables for our weekly drop-in soup kitchen. We're also working toward our silver Eco Church award from A Rocha.
I used to cycle quite a bit, but then injuries, illness, and a PhD got
in the way, and now I find myself taking the bus for journeys I would
have previously considered trivial. My boundaries of the North Circular and the Thames might not sound very far for the seasoned cyclists out there, or for people who don't cycle at all, but my journeys south of the river are usually in the evenings, and I don't want to start a journey home in an area I don't know well at 10pm. My journeys to and from church, the allotment, and various rehearsals are all going to be covered by this challenge, so I will be getting plenty of miles in. I'm not even actually sure whether I can do it, but I want to try. I'll be updating this page, or my Twitter feed, with screenshots from Strava (if I can get it working) and/or pictures of things I see while I'm out and about.
