Kathryn's Fundraiser for Katharine House Hospice, 11 September 2022
We provide free care services to patients with life limiting conditions.

Story

As most of you will know Kathryn was diagnosed with Bowel Cancer in Autumn 2018, and since then it has spread throughout her body to where we are in September 2022 where she has just undergone an operation to remove a tumour from her brain.  She is currently recovering from that operation.

Prior to the recent diagnosis when Kathryn was suffering crippling neck pain Katharine House Hospice in Stafford had been immensely supportive to us as a family offering to review her pain relief, and then offering to bring Kathryn into the Hospice to get on top of it.  She spent over 2 weeks in the hospice and they got to the point of managing her pain although it did lead to us finding out that the cancer has spread to the spine and brain.

They have taken Kathryn in direct from the hospital to aid her physical and mental recovery & wellbeing.  I've seen directly the amazing work and care their staff give to patients.  It's easy to forget that hospices don't just deal with end of life care.  They have to raise the majority of their funds themselves so every penny really does help.

Kathryn asked me to set this page up in advance of her leaving the hospital  and she hopes to do something special as part of the JustGiving page when she's able to do so, and if she can't no doubt I'll be roped into doing something.

Katharine House provides free hospice care services in Mid Staffordshire for people faced with an illness that cannot be cured. Our aim is to enable our patients and those close to them to live as fully as possible and make the most of the time that's left. "The team were fantastic. They helped us to deal with watching our son die and then helping us through the next few hours when we were all numb and not able to think about anything else."-Family of an At Home Team patient
