Michael McCabe, Centre Manager for RST in Glasgow was diagnosed with multiple, inoperable tumours in October this year.  At 32, this is the second time that Michael has been seriously ill.  He has spent the last couple of months surrounded by family, friends and an unwavering courage.   Michael has already created some amazing memories in recent weeks with wife Emma and son Fergus, and is determined to enjoy life to the full.  

 

One of the areas that gives him strength is the Friends of the Beatson Charity.  Friends of the Beatson makes the lives of cancer patients better. They do this by providing practical comfort and support for patients at The Beatson West of Scotland Cancer Centre. They work with the patients themselves and with the Beatson staff, medical, nursing and administrative - to ensure that they deliver the support in the best possible way for patients.

 

They also run The Friends of the Beatson Centre which has been designed as a "retreat" for patients and a place of calm. It was constructed by and is run by Friends of the Beatson and is independent of the main hospital operation. From Michael’s personal experience it is great to have a “non-clinical” place to get away from the day to day ward.

 

They also offer all sorts of complimentary therapies which Michael always take full advantage of when he is in. Reflexology is top of his list and he also recently managed to have a hair cut, as Emma thought he looked like Julius Cesar!

 

Michael is really keen to raise as much money as he can for Friends of the Beatson as a thank you and legacy for the fantastic work they do.  We would love your support to do so.   By forgoing the usual money spent on Secret Santa in our offices and donating instead what you would have spent to Friends of the Beatson, you really can make a difference to the work these guys do and spread happiness that little wider this Christmas.
