We support people with mental health issues to improve opportunities for recovery

Story

Orkney Blide Trust promotes mental well-being in Orkney, through active personalised support with a focus on recovery. We support over 140 people in Orkney with their recovery from mental ill health (we also help visitors and tourists in need of help). We do this by providing complementary therapies, one to one support, numerous activities e.g. Creative Writing, Crafts, Out and About trips etc. People join as members and work together with the staff team to plan and develop what we do so it meets the needs of our people.

As someone who has a long history of mental health issues, I am keen to raise awareness and help find support for people who may not be as well as I am right now. Blide Trust have previously supported me in my recovery and I want to contribute towards helping this charity maintain the invaluable services they provide.

So... As my knees are knackered which means I can't run marathons and I really don't like heights so a sponsored sky dive is out of the question, I decided to exercise/participate in some sort of physical activity every day for a 100 days. My aim is to exercise for at least 20 minutes at the time (so 10 push ups won't count as a days exercise) and in the midst, try different activities available in Orkney which may contribute towards mental well-being.

Wish me luck and thank you for joining me in my journey!
