We breed and train guide dogs to give blind people freedom and mobility

Story

Hiya im Kai Grewer, and im a 5 year old boy with severe sight impairment, my little sister also has the same genetic condition as me.

we're both registered blind and struggle daily with everyday task that most people take for granted,  I've just started year1 at my local mainstream school and i will be honest finding it incredibly tough,

part of our condition means we suffer from photophobia (severe light sensitivity). this mixed with my dancing eyes (nystagmus) and lack of colour vision, and my low vision. make for a tough time at school.

Im hoping to recieve habilitation training from the guide dogs charity in the very near future, this will equip me with essential skills to complete (for you) simple everyday task independently ie: fastening my zip on my coat and other small fasteners, identifiying coins, and learning how to mobilise with more safely when out and about. Im really excited for this imperative training it will help me to be more like all the other children at school, although being me is pretty cool. Im awesome and dont like to let things beat me..

without fundraising events like this vital services for people like me wouldnt be around. and libby & I need these to live a inclusive life. It may not seem like a challenge to you but our vision deteriorates s the day goes on our dancing eyes go raving,  so come friday evening after a full week at school i really struggle to see a thing and our night vision isnt too clever due to the cones and rods not functioning right. so this is set to be a real challenge for myself and libby but we will not be beat and would like you to sponsor us and help us say thankyou to such a paramount service.

so dig deep people and give what you can. we will be sure to take lots of pictures of how we get on..

The ability to get around is vital in order to live a full life yet thousands of people with sight loss never leave home alone. We empower visually impaired people to do that and rely on the support of the public to fund the guide dog service.
