My Story...
At an early stage during lockdown, I realised that I had hit a bad place. My drinking (beer) increased and I was smoking more than I ever had. I was home alone, and I realised that I was scared of contracting the virus and ultimately of death. I started to see stories of younger people that had had the virus and not survived and realised that it could be me. I was scared.
I knew that to be in the best place possible to fight Covid-19 should I get it, I needed to be fit, and despite the fact that I do a very physical job, and assumed I would be quite fit, when my sister told me that she and her daughter were doing daily Joe Wicks, I thought I would try it.
After a few sessions I was acutely aware just how unfit I was!
I started training every day with Joe, and then started doing some volunteer work with Herm to get them supplies during their own lockdown, which was great for keeping me busy.
I then took the next step and gave up smoking and drinking, and decided to turn my life around.
Everyday since I have completed a Joe wicks workout and have felt better every day as a result.
During Lockdown I started cycling as the restrictions relaxed and as they relaxed more I started boxing with Christie at CL Fitness. I also joined Beau Sejour and took swimming back up, I had swum for my island as a teen and it was great to get back into it.
I love the boxing - it releases so many emotions and makes me feel great, so I am really looking forward to taking part in 'King of the Ring', the white collar boxing event.
I also now go to FITFARM on a Saturday, and HITT Classes, a great Saturday workout and a great contact to have.
Since Lockdown in March I have lost nearly 8 stone, and I want to raise money that MIND GUERNSEY can spend on fitness activities for those that cannot afford it, to benefit their mental health.
