Story
Growing up LGBT+ can be unacceptably tough. Right now, LGBT+ young people are twice as likely as their non-LGBT peers to be feeling lonely and separated from the people they are closest to on a daily basis. The lockdowns have been tough for everyone, but for many young LGBT+ people they have been unbearable. We are a team of 5 ambassadors from the UK charity for LGBT+ young people - Just Like Us. Over the next few weeks we're taking part in The 5.0 Ambassador Challenge to raise money for Just Like Us. By supporting us today you will help to tackle homophobic, biphobic and transphobic bullying and make sure that LGBT+ young people across the UK know that being LGBT+ is something to be celebrated!
Why the 5.0 Ambassador Challenge? 5 is a very special number for three reasons. First, five is the age at which most children in the UK start school. Second, Just Like Us aims to reach 3 out of 4 schools over the next 5 years. Third, 2021 marks Just Like Us's fifth birthday! We will therefore be undertaking several 5-themed challenges in the run-up to the 17th of May aka IDAHOBIT - International Day Against Homophobia, Transphobia and Biphobia.
Anna will be walking 50k (now upped to 65k) and taking photos of objects in JLU colours - red, blue, yellow, green and purple - along the way! Watch this space for colourful updates.
Izzy will be doing art commissions in exchange for donations- so far mostly famous lgbt figures or allies!
Ellie will be attempting 5 5k runs with an average pace of 5.5 mins/ km!
Alice will be making and selling candles with the 6 colours of the pride rainbow 🏳️🌈
We have also organised a virtual fundraising open mic night!
