SERENJE
In 2008, we began a five year project in partnership with Tearfund and the Evangelical Fellowship of Zambia aimed at tackling the impact of HIV and AIDS in Serenje, a rural district of Zambia.
PROJECT AIMS
The project had four main aims:
- HIV prevention
- Improved food security
- Increased access to education for orphans and vulnerable children
- Leadership capacity development
The project has developed significantly. It now includes the building of a dormitory for girls to enable them to complete their education (Project 125), partners schools from Bracknell Forest with schools in Serenje, and, through members of our community, Howard and Elizabeth Reece-Smith, has provided an operating theatre for the local hospital.
The project is currently in its fifth year and you can read more about its history and current developments on the Serenje Blog B | http://serenje.blogspot.co.uk
If you would like to give to the project then you can give online or in person at reception at The Kerith Centre.
Two members of our church community, Sam and Hannah Fairs-Billam, are currently working in Zambia with EFZ on child protection and safeguarding. You can find out more about their work on their blog http://www.tehila.org
