Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

Over the last decade or so I have been in the sad position of 3 friends having their babies born sleeping. This is unimaginable and so heart-breaking. As a friend you don't know what to do or say to help - there is little that can provide comfort I am sure. What I do know though is that having to return to a maternity department for counselling support must be tortuous hell. I am therefore supporting Zephyr's fund to build on their project to have safe and comfortable support surroundings for parents who find themselves in this terrible position.

Zephyr’s fund was founded by Carly and Martin, whose first son Zephyr was sadly stillborn at the City Hospital. Carly and Martin were overwhelmed by the care and support they received, but had to return to the maternity ward for counselling, which brought back very painful memories. They established Zephyr’s with the goal of creating a better place for families and staff to come together within safe and comfortable surroundings to receive support.

An interim centre is now open. This space, set up in former doctor’s accommodation at Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust at the Derwent Flats on Embley Road, will give a more immediate alternative to clinical settings- an essential step towards the long term aim of a purpose-built centre. These funds will help support the development of the much needed new centre.

For those that don't know me very well the idea of flinging myself off a building (all be it with a bit of rope) is no mean feat! I am just glad we are doing it next to A&E and I don't think they will be wanting any additional patients so fingers crossed all goes to plan... this however is a small bit of discomfort and worry compared to what others have to go through. So dig deep, please, I don't intend to bounce (climb/scream/elegantly lower/fling myself etc. etc.) down a building ever, ever again....! If we hit the target I will share a petrified photo or two too..
