Clipper RTW Yacht Race 09-10 · 13 September 2009

We fundraise in memory of Sacha to support all those affected by cancer.

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page. I am taking part in the Clipper Round the World Race 09-10. I have funded myself to take part in the race and now hope to raise money for my two chosen charities.

Please do donate to either page:

This page is raising funds for The Sacha Borthwick Foundation in memory of my friend Sacha who died of cancer in 2007 aged 35 after a long, courageous and hard fought battle with the disease.

My other chosen charity is raising funds for Great Ormond Street Hospital in memory of my gorgeous nephew George Lynskey who died suddenly on 8th December 2009.  Please go to www.justgiving.com/Julia-Taylor2 to donate

Please, please donate to either charity as both are in memory of very special people.

The hard fought battle of the Clipper RTW race with ten identical yachts started in September last year and they are currently racing towards China to the half way mark. Here I will be joining my yacht named "Edinburgh Inspiring Capital" and I will leave Qingdao in China on 2nd March. My route takes me across the pacific to San Francisco, from there down to Panama, through the Panama canal, onto Jamaica, New York, Cape Breton (Nova Scotia),  across the Atlantic to Cork, Amsterdam and finally to the glamourous ending in Hull on July 17th 2010. If you wish to know more about my challenge then please take a look at my website www.jatroundtheworld.com or www.clipperroundtheworld.com where you can follow my progress on the race viewer.

Thank you so much lol Jules

Sacha Borthwick battled with Hodgkins disease and Lymphoma and died on the 19th July 07. Sacha was a wonderful husband, father, brother and great friend to so many. He had such an enormous effect on so many peoples lives. A work colleague remembered him as “..every so often in life we are privileged to meet someone who we know..Sacha was such a person. You felt his sincerity, his genuineness, kindness and honesty from the first few moments of meeting him”.

Sacha leaves his fabulous wife Lucy and gorgeous daughter Liv, who will both be in Hull to cheer me in from my adventure on the Clipper Round the World Race.

Sacha's family have set up the Foundation in order that Sacha’s death may not have been in vain, so that his memory and legacy may continue perpetually.  The Foundation will aim to assist organisations who’s efforts and work, in terms of research, nursing and compassionate care and counselling, may go largely unnoticed by the general public, yet are enormously important and essential to the individuals and families who’s lives have been blighted by cancer. These people were integral in Sacha's battle with cancer.

These funds are going to be split between the following charities:

Iain Rennie Hospice at Home
St Bartholomew’s Hospital
The Anthony Nolan Trust
Macmillan Nurses
