Story

I'm fundraising for QueensCourt Hospice.

Hospices in the UK are not government funded - they rely and depend on charitable donations to survive.

They do amazing caring work looking after end-of-life people in a gentler setting allowing them the best possible quality of life for the time they have left - one of the people they looked after was my lovely mother-in-law.

They are amazing people doing an amazing job - and they need our support.

So, what am I doing...

Well, as some of you will know, in 2022 Harry and I successfully summited Kilimanjaro. I also cycled London to Paris - all as part of our fundraising for QueensCourt Hospice. In 2023 I cycled the UK Coast to Coast in a Day and also trekked to Everest Base Camp (and climbed Kala Pattur). I’ve kept some photos in the gallery of all these.

As a mid-50’s, overweight, short, Welsh bloke, I’m clearly ideally placed to attempt great feats in aid of raising money - mostly I suspect by letting people see me make a fool of myself. My intention is to keep doing something inappropriate-for-someone-of-my-age every year for as long as I’m able.

I’ve been looking at what other foolish things I might try in 2024 to convince you lovely people to part with more of your hard earned cash for what I believe is an amazing cause. So here we go…

In April I’ll be attempting to Mountain Bike the Camino de Santiago - the ‘pilgrims route’ from Southern France across the Pyrenees to the West Spain coast over the course of 10 days. That’s around 850km and 9000m of assents. On a Mountain Bike.

Just in case you’re wondering, it's not uncommon for people to underwrite their costs out of money donated; so I thought I'd be clear. Not one single penny of the money raised underwrites my costs. I’m sure you weren’t wondering, but just in case.

Please do donate if you feel able - just click to donate and the money raised will go straight to Queenscourt at the end of the collection period. If you pay UK tax then you can click the gift-aid box and that additional 25% will also go to them at no cost to you.

Please also consider forwarding this to anyone you think might be willing to either donate to this great cause or would enjoy revelling in the pain of me/old-people/Welsh-people/etc.

QueensCourt Hospice truly  is an amazing place and so if you like the idea of my general suffering in the name of a good cause, or are just willing to support this amazing place, please consider donating towards Queenscourt’s fabulous work.

Here’s a link to the QueensCourt website that explains how every donation, from £10 or whatever you choose to donate, has a direct positive impact on families: https://www.queenscourt.org.uk/index.php/donate/how-does-it-help.html

Thank you !

Julian/Jules

P.S. I’ll put updates in to let you know how this somewhat mad event goes !
