Story
I believe that the work Brook does to support young people have happy, healthy lives is some of the most important in the world.
It's also some of the most difficult to fund and the easiest to cut. That's why I'm walking 100km in 24hr and hoping to raise money for the organisation I am so proud to work for. I'm also, in a recent change to the schedule, going to be hugging 50 people in the next 30 days. You can find out more about that here: http://juleslearnstorun.blogspot.co.uk/
50 years ago - in 1964 Helen Brook wanted to create an organisation that would give unmarried women access to contraception. We have come a long way in 50 years - we have more control over our bodies, more choices about our relationships and our health - but there is still much to do to keep young people safe, happy and healthy.
Brook works with hundreds of thousands of young people each year, some of whom are in danger and vulnerable to abuse, violence and exploitation. we help young people develop self-esteem and self-confidence, we teach them about respect, consent, relationships and health, we listen to their hopes and fears and we campaign with them to improve services, education, policies and attitudes to young people's health and well-being. It's such important work.
Most of you will know that I had hoped this walk would be a joint venture with Steve. We had done lots of great training together when he played an unwise game of squash and ruptured his Achilles tendon. So now I'm training solo - I'm off on walks that last more 8 hours at a time, running (I know! I hate running!) and swimming so that I'm fit and healthy enough to take on the challenge.
So please support me in this huge physical endeavour. You know the drill - Just Giving is easy and if you're a tax-payer please Gift Aid it. I'm really grateful for anything you can give.
