Story
Our wonderful Dad, John Edwards, passed away suddenly but peacefully on Wednesday 20th April, 2022. Robert, Catherine and Somchai were with him and by his side until he completed his race here on earth and went to be with Jesus, his Lord and Saviour.
The day before our Dad died, he went out for a walk – as he always did – and bumped into a former colleague who had sadly just lost his wife. He spent the rest of the afternoon finding out this man’s address, writing a message of encouragement in his last remaining Easter card, then making the trip up the road to the post box so that the card would make the last collection and arrive the next day. He told us through teary eyes the message he had written in the card, which included Psalm 30:5,
‘…weeping may endure for a night, but joy comes in the morning.’
What a comfort these words have been to us. His final act of gentle, determined kindness sums him up so perfectly. Always thinking of others before himself, seeking out ways to encourage those around him, and pointing people to the hope that he personally had in Jesus.
Oh, how our hearts ache with sorrow at the enormous hole he leaves in our lives and in the family home. But oh, how grateful we are that he knew with such assurance where he was going and for the legacy he leaves behind.
‘Well done, good and faithful servant.’
