Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
My name is John Barratt and I am 83 years of age, on 25/08/2015 during a recent holiday to Turkey I decided to complete a paraglide from Mount Babadag in Olu Deniz to raise money for Alzheimers Society. My wife Margaret Barratt was diagnosed with Alzheimers disease 9 years ago and since then I have been her full-time carer. In 2014 I was diagnosed with bowel cancer and needed surgery, so was unable to care for Margaret at home, she is now in full-time care where I attend every day, 7 days a week to continue to care for her. We have been married 61 years and in doing this paraglide I hope to raise money for a charity close to mine and my families hearts. I done this with the hope I can help others who may be facing similar circumstances, finding themselves in a terrifying and heartbreaking situation in which a loved one has Alzheimers. Not only does it change the life of the sufferer but also changes the life of their partner, from the companionship of marriage into the role of caregiver.
I also done this in loving memory of a dear friend George Warriner who also had Alzheimers Disease and sadly passed away on 18th February this year. This was my son in laws father and he also participated in the paraglide along with his wife Alison (my daughter) and his daughter Rebecca (my granddaughter). I hope to raise as much as possible for The Alzheimers Society and any donations, large or small would be greatly appreicated,
Many Thanks, John.
