Story
Hello! We are Jodie and Maru, and we are here to raise money for a charity close to our heart; James support group (Registered Charity Number SC050519).
James support group is a charity run by Jodie’s parents in law, Wendy and Patrick, for 4 years now, after they had to confront a sudden incident that changed their lives for ever, the death of James, their son, Jodie’s partner. Here is a quote of the charity’s website with
a little bit of history.
…” James Mullery was just 28 years old when his issues got too much for him, and he decided there and then to take his own life. It’s hard to believe, but he left three children behind, 5 years, 2 years, and only 10 weeks old. He also left behind his partner and all of his family and friends – We have all been affected by him ending his own life and will continue to feel the effects for a long long time to come. We are all facing a life without James, who was a lovely man. He wasn’t perfect, none of us are, but we miss him and his wicked sense of humour. James was the life and soul of a night out, and great fun to have around” ...
We want to raise awareness apart from money, as suicide and mental health is still something that we don’t talk much about these days, and it is something that it’s around us all the time, every day. Many people suffering from anxiety disorders, panic attacks, personality disorders, eating disorders, trauma-related disorders, substance abuse disorders are some of the many signs of depression but that we can’t see unless the person speaks out about them and ask for help!
So since neither of us, Jodie and Maru, run marathons or walk for miles or swim in the cold sea to participate in any of these events to raise money we decided to join forces. Jodie is studying at UHI (University of Highlands and Islands) Level 3 Hair Dressing and Maru has very long hair! So, we decided to ask everyone if you could sponsor us by cutting (or chopping! very short) Maru’s hair, around 13 inches or 33 cm (2 years since she last cut it)!!
We will donate the hair to “Little Princess Trust” and the money raised will go to “James support group”, “Little Princes Trust” is a charity that makes wigs for children with Cancer or Alopecia.
It doesn’t matter how much you can spare, a pound, or two, or a fiver. Anything will be welcome and well used by Wendy and Patrick because since becoming a registered charity in October 2020, they are now able to expand their support service to cover The Scottish Highlands, providing monthly support groups, break out personal sessions as required, a 24/7 Helpline & various other support events throughout the year.
We are aiming to cut Maru’s hair by the 13th of December.
Thank you very much
Jodie & Maru
