Thank you for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.My name is Jack Lander and I am 9 years old . On the 19th July 2015 I will commence my walk from Stratford Racecourse to The Injured Jockeys Fund Oaksey House in Lambourn, Berkshire, which is about 56 miles. I love horse racing and my ambition is to become a jump jockey myself when I am older. I have my own pony, River, who is the typical 'naughty pony', I suffered a couple of nasty falls about 3 months ago, and realised then that jockeys are so brave doing what they do, and that The Injured Jockey Fund is of vital importance to both past and present jockeys, and they need our help to keep this great facility running. Please help me raise as much money as I can for this great charity.Below is a very small description of what The Injured Jockeys Fund do, please vist www.injuredjockeys.co.uk for further information.Should you require any further information or fancy joining me on one of my days walking please email JacksInjuredJockeyFundwalk@outlook.com
The Injured Jockeys Fund also works closely with racing authorities and other organisations on many initiatives. It part funds on course physios and medical services and also research into improved riding protection equipment for jockeys which has resulted in a number of improved manufacturing standards being implemented. In 2009 it opened its first rehabilitation centre, Oaksey House, in Lambourn and is currently in the process of building a second centre Jack Berry House in Malton for northern based jockeys. The Fund also funds the Equichute based at The British Racing School, the equichute is a life size, high-tech simulator closely replicates the motion and forces experienced when falling from a horse, but in a controlled and safe environment, teaching jockeys the skills needed to accept a fall as safely as possible.used in fall training for students and current jockeys.
