UPDATE:
Due to Covid, we have had to make some necessary changes to our challenge! We have decided to swap bikes for walking boots and, regrettably but sensibly, swapped Kenya for the UK.
We will now be completing the Hadrian's Wall trek this September. We will be walking from Bowness on Solway to Wallsend. Trekking a total of 140km over 6 days!
We will continue to raise money for Breast Cancer Now, Jo’s Cervical Cancer Trust and Ovarian Cancer Action in the weeks leading up to our trek. Thank you to everyone who has donated and supported us so far!
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Hello my name is Joan, known by many as Bone. Myself and my daughter Sophie would like you to support us as we take on an important cycling challenge that will raise money for 3 cancer charities!
We will be taking on the Giving Works – Women Vs Cancer Cycle Kenya, in October 2021.
We will be covering over 400kms in 6 days, cycling from the foothills of Mount Kenya to the town of Kisumu on Lake Victoria. Cycling in the Kenyan heat near the Rift Valley, at fairly high altitude, will be no mean feat. We will be challenged by steep climbs, dirt roads and cross-country terrain. This will be a bumpy ride!
Why are we doing this? The answer is simple: Woman’s Cancer. We are attempting to raise as much money as possible in aid of three fantastic charities. Breast Cancer Now, Jo’s Cervical Cancer Trust and Ovarian Cancer Action
There is a history of breast cancer in my family. My mother died in 1986 as a result of this disease. Her sister and their niece have also both lost their lives to breast cancer. I battled breast cancer in 2016. At the moment I am well and am determined to do my bit to help these charities. They all play a vital role in the relentless fight against cancer in women.
Sophie and I have experienced cancer in our respective ways: me as a patient and she as a supportive daughter. We both feel passionate about helping future generations who find themselves in the same position. Sophie will be by my side every pedal of the way, supporting me but also completing the challenge in her own right.
We intend to fund ourselves so all money donated will go directly to the three charities.
This will be a massive personal challenge and although October 2021 may seem like a long way off, time will fly! We will use this page to keep you updated on our training progression.
Thank you for your support,
Bone and Sophie
On your bike!
