Story
Juliet was born on 13th August 2019. I'm sure all our family and friends have enjoyed watching her happy face as she has grown. Her smile melts our hearts, she is always laughing. Sadly, she has a condition called plagiocephaly. From very early on, Juliet favoured looking to one side, and after about 12 weeks we noticed that a flat spot had appeared on one side of the back of her head. Looking down on Juliet's head from above, it also became obvious that her ears were quite considerably out of alignment.
Having spoken to the NHS we were told that "it is only cosmetic" and "her hair will cover it". This is not actually true and without treatment poor Juliet's head shape will likely stay severely deformed for the remainder of her life. This could result in her possibly having trouble wearing glasses, cycle helmets etc and the asymmetry could cause issues with her sight, jaw and teeth if not rectified.
We undertook our own research and discovered an internet community where we were given helpful information and guidance. We decided to take Juliet to see a specialist who made a thorough evaluation, concluding that Juliet is 25mm out of alignment, technically a severe deformity.
We are trying to raise funds to help pay for a helmet that is required to treat our daughter Juliet's plagiocephaly. The helmet is custom made for Juliet by a specialist company called Ahead4babies costing a grand total of £2000 which is unfortunately not funded by the NHS. The helmet is custom made and needs to be worn 23 hours a day for possibly up to 6 months :(
We also want to try to raise awareness for Juliet's condition to other parents. What started out as stiffness in the neck muscle has resulted in something far more serious. We have tried exercises, tummy time, rotating the side in which Juliet sleeps on since she was 3 months old but the Plagio has continued to be persistent.
We would be so very grateful for any amount you can donate however small to help us make Juliets back of her head as lovely as the front and prevent any problems as she grows.
