Story
Jim Steel sadly passed away in May 2023, just 5 days from his 90th birthday.
Between,1948-1958 Jim was a proud Royal Naval man and in that time covered many oceans. Serving on HMS Loch Fada, Loch Tralaig, Adament, Mermaid, Victory, Boxer, Bulwark and Diligence. For two years Jim was based in Malta, served in the Suez Campaign and was proudly Guard of Honour for the Queen.
In later life, Jim enjoyed his days living close to the beach in West Wittering (West Sussex). Where he was locally regarded as an expert on various ship wrecks in the area and was a keen supporter of the Shipwrecked Mariners' Society.
This is a local charity, based in Chichester “Since 1839, they have provided financial assistance to fishermen and mariners and their dependants who have suffered hardship, misfortune or
poverty, as a result of an accident, illness, disability, unemployment or retirement”
The people they help are mainly retired or permanently disabled seafarers and their widows/partners. With close ties to the fishing industry and Merchant Navy. Their sea service may have included time in the Royal Navy as well.
Thanks for taking the time to visit Jim's JustGiving page.
