Story
As many of you know, my dad passed away suddenly on the 21st of November, from heart failure. He had many friends and kept in contact with people from all walks of his life. People have described there sense of great loss at his passing and that he was one in a million. To me he was quite simply my dad. As most father and sons we infuriated one another, but he was a constant in my life, round every week for his supper and a chat about current affairs whilst telly was in in the background. Ready to offer advice when I needed it, he was someone who was always there and I miss him greatly, and will love him always. My dad had three grandchildren, two of whom are severely autistic. He was so proud of them all and all their achievements. He never raised a harsh word against them when they climbed all over him, or tried to pry his false teeth from his mouth. Instead we all chuckled at their antics. He was known as grandad chocolate as he never came empty handed with little chocolate treats for them. The children loved him and will miss him.
It’s been nice speaking to many of dads friends. Some he’s known all his life, some he’s picked up along his travels and some more recent. I know he valued his friendships no matter how long he had known someone and it is clear from hearing from many of his friends you cherished his. I have enjoyed speaking to those I know and those I don’t, hearing the stories of his life. I would love to include some of the stories in his remembrance service to be performed via the reverend so if you could send me a few lines, I will pass them on to her. Dads funeral will be on the 20th of December we will be going to Park Wood (Elland) Crematorium at 1.30 pm on followed by a service at Hebden Royd Methodist Church (Hebden bridge) at 2.30pm the wake will be in at Michael’s church hall in Mytholmroyd. Please feel free to attend as much or as little of the day you wish every one will be welcome to all parts of the funeral day. Dad would not want flowers but instead we are asking that money be given to two charities. One of these charities is one his grandchildren use frequently and he loved hearing tales of them there and one day wanted to go himself. It is called space centre in Preston, it is a multi sensory room that is a safe and fun environment for children and adults with disabilities.
