Hope you are all safe and enjoying your time at home! Unfortunately, the nature of this year has meant we have had few opportunities to support some of the incredible charities we work with as a society.
Our latest charity, The Ted Senior Foundation (TSF) is an amazing organisation aimed at using sports societies to help support people with their mental health. It is a cause close to home as it was set up by the friends and family of Ted Senior, a boy who came to Bristol University and went on our ski trips but sadly made the decision to take his own life in 2018.
I was lucky enough to meet his friends and family who set up this organisation in his name. Alongside 5 other representatives from leading sports societies at Bristol, they funded a comprehensive mental health training package to encourage the use of sport as a means of supporting the mental health of students.
I hope this is a cause and a philosophy which resonates with many of you, Mental Health is such an important aspect of our lives at university and I hope that within UBSC you feel you have people that you can turn to for support.
This Christmas Day, we will be doing a pounds for pints (any drink will do!) challenge (That’s right, no need for your trainers this time!). We would encourage you to support TSF by donating pounds relative to the number of seconds it takes you to finish your drinks (or whatever you can spare). You will be tagged in this page on Christmas day and a link to donate will be pinned at the top of the page, so get your pint glasses ready!
I hope that you will all get involved in a light hearted challenge to help raise some money for this fantastic charity. To find out more about the TSF check out this link
