Story
COVID-19 has been declared a pandemic and I have decided to be part of the solution. I am supporting Amref Health Africa UK's fundraising effort to fund the training of frontline workers in Africa to respond to the pandemic. Whilst the risk of the spread of the virus to Africa is considered lower than that of a spread to Europe, the response capacity of African countries is much lower compared to European counties.
Amref Health Africa is Africa's leading health development organisation, saving and transforming lives in the poorest and most marginalised communities. Headquartered in Nairobi it is a truly African organisation addressing Africa's health challenges.
Amref Health Africa is working closely with African Ministries of Health, Africa CDC alongside the World Health Organisation in preventive measures to curb the spread of the COVID- 19 and especially by strengthening frontline health workers. With our support, Amref will create new training content for its mobile learning platform, Leap, which is accessible to frontline health workers using a basic mobile phone or smartphone. They will be trained to identify, isolate and refer suspected cases, and to encourage the behaviours (e.g. handwashing) that help prevent transmission. They will also be equipped to counter the rumours and misconceptions that can flourish in an epidemic, making it all the more difficult to contain.
Please join forces with me and Amref's brilliant team to contain COVID-19.
