Story
Those of you who know me well, will know that undertaking a physical challenge relating to any sport, is not my idea of fun.... so when this charity (that is very dear to my heart) came up with the idea of fundraising by simply having a cup of tea and a piece of cake... I simply couldn’t resist !
To recognise Global 22q Awareness Day on Sunday 22/11, I will be ‘having a brew for 22q’.
In normal times I would be inviting you to join me and to support this tiny, underfunded, but vital charity, by buying a cup of tea and/or a piece of cake, but whilst we remain in lockdown clearly getting together is not possible, so I am simply asking you to join me, in spirit, on Sunday and to maybe donate the cost of a cup of coffee/tea/slice of cake.
22q1.1 is the element of a chromosome that my son, Joe, is missing. The missing part is clearly tiny, the impact on overall normal development, health and wellbeing is sadly, not so tiny. We are lucky that overall Joe is mildly affected but he is a complex little boy and whilst in the main he is a happy 10 year old, who loves life, football and PS4 (!), managing all the complexities remains challenging.
The Max Appeal charity is the only UK charity that supports children/adults and parents who are living with this condition. Their work is invaluable to those of us who endeavour to navigate and support our children through this complex and little heard-of condition.
Thanks for reading and for all support. Enjoy your ‘brew’’
