Story

Please help me support The Calvert Trust - they make the Lake District and outdoor activities accessible to people with disabilities which is fantastic.

I will also match anything you give with a donation to Hutton Community Centre in Essex to a maximum of £1,000.

THE CHALLENGE:

Since September last year I've been regularly ascending a hill called "Dodd" in the Lakes with the aim of getting to 100 ascents. I've been adding weights to the pack to make it a little more challenging and since March I've been at a 40 lb pack.

At about 500m high, Dodd is not huge compared to some of the big Lake District hills - but it is still one of the Wainwrights and is a great leg workout without needing to go to the gym.

As of the time of posting this at the end of August I've just got to 85 Dodd ascents completed. Only 15 to go but it's definitely getting tougher to keep going so any contributions to help keep me motivated will be much appreciated :) :)

Credit is also due to Forestry England here - they manage not just Dodd Wood which I have visited SOO many times now but also many other locations in the Lakes and other parts of the country. They are great.

Check out the photos of some of the great views I get to see.......

Thank you all in advance :)

About the charity

The Lake District Calvert Trust provides residential outdoor activity courses for people of all ages with physical, sensory, learning, behavioural and/or mental disabilities. Its mission is to challenge disability through outdoor adventure. Pioneering equipment adaptations, and intensive, instructor-led activity programmes (that include climbing, abseiling, canoeing, sailing, horse/trap driving, archery, orienteering and paragliding), provide an environment whose aims are to teach, challenge, motivate, engender confidence in ability, promote independence, and foster integration. All instructors are highly trained and specialist qualified, and the facilities are specially adapted and fully accessible to all. The Lake District Calvert Trust provides a unique and life-changing experience for those with disabilities, who are encouraged to believe that it’s what you CAN do that counts.
