Story
I am taking part in Retina Australia’s Do it in the Dark fundraiser to help raise awareness of inherited retinal disease in the community and raise funds to support research looking to treat IRDs.
To raise funds, I am planning a 5 day bake off that will lead into Easter Saturday where I will hold an Easter themed picnic with a restricted vision Easter egg hunt! Retina Australia have provided special glasses that will allow you to see the world like those living with IRD and will make the hunting of Easter eggs all the more challenging.
There will be an Easter egg hunt for kids, as well as a ‘grown up’ hunt with wine instead of chocolate.
I would love for you to join me on Easter Saturday to picnic and hunt, so if you’re in town and looking for something to do please contact me for the details.
Everything I bake throughout the week will be there for you to eat. So if you have an easter themed baking request send it on through!
The condition manifests as tunnel vision with some other delightful effects which also make me completely useless in the dark. So if I’ve ever snubbed a handshake or ignored you waving at me across a dimly lit room, please don’t take it personally, I can guarantee I just didn’t see you!
There are ~300 known genes that can cause this condition but no treatments yet. I want to help Retina Australia fund their research to find ways to slow or stop the progression
