Great North Run 2019
Campaign by Maggie's Centres (RCN SC024414)
The amazing Team Maggie's taking on the 2018 Great North Run for the benefit of people affected by cancer.

Story

I only visited the Maggie's Centre in Glasgow a handful of times, but the expert knowledge, kindness and empathy of their staff had an unforgettable impact on me.

It gave me understanding at a time when I was very confused of how cancer was affecting my dad. It gave me hope when I was terrified of the road ahead. It gave me reassurance that it's okay to feel all of these things when someone you love is suffering. But the thing that I will be forever grateful for is that it gave me the push to speak honestly with Dad about his illness.

He was always brave, resilient and upbeat and when we were told secondary cancer had developed Dad remained the same. I was terrified, angry and struggling to remain upbeat. That's when I went to the Maggie's Centre.

Cancer is something we all fear, and we can only hope that we can live out our lives without this terrible disease affecting us in some way. It can feel like a very lonely time in a lot of different ways which is where Maggie's comes in. This centre is the shining light in what feels like a never ending tunnel of darkness.

It would be absolutely brilliant if you could support Maggie's Glasgow by sponsoring me as I take on the Great North Run on Sunday 8th September 2019. It falls just a week before Dad's 2nd anniversary and I know he'll be looking down on me as I plod along the streets of the North East. Thank you so much for your kindness.
