A wee bit about why we're doing this challenge...................
Jan
After years of being a couch potato with the odd (being the word) bout of swimming, gym or a wee run with Ruth etc I decided I needed a challenge, a goal to aim for something that would make me strive to succeed and show me that I am capable of a lot more than I give myself credit for! Unfortunately we all know people who have been affected by cancer and we know the important support that that Macmillan provides. I am looking forward to raising as much money as possible so as to enable them to provide services to patients and their families wherever needed. So please dig deep and donate now.

Jan and I have talked about running a marathon on and off since we met and every April when the London Marathon is on the telly we get terribly motivated and talk about applying. Now we are in along with Ruth and it is a little scary. I have run the marathon before but that was ten years ago and I have developed into a proffesional couch bum and cheap wine connoisseur plus it has taken me nearly thirty years to fine hone my smoking to 40 a day. The challenge starts straight away to stop the fags and get off my backside to start exercising again. Running the marathon and raising money for Macmillan is a real honour and a chance to say thank you for the work that Macmillan Cancer Support do. The last few days of my mothers life were very tough but the Macmillan Nurses who came to the house made a really terrible experience easier for all of our family to cope with. The money that we raise is a big thank you to them and to help them continue to provide a priceless level of support to the sufferers of cancer and their families and friends.

Setting myself the challenge of running the London Marathon means that i can give something back. I lost my dad earlier this year to cancer. During his short illness Macmillan Cancer Support were a big part of family life. Their support throughout this difficult time was immense and I cannot thank them enough for all they did for my dad, my mam and the rest of the family. Never one to shy away from challenges (and i do love to make plans :O) when Jan suggested running the marathon i thought, why not? little did i think at the time that we would actually get in! Now that we're focused on the finish line i know that having the support of my friends and family and a positive attitude will be a huge help. My dad loved a challenge and he was No.1 when it came to PMA - this marathon is for him. Please support Team Macmillan Stornoway, please dig deep and donate now.
