Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page! I know, there's heaps of these that do the rounds, but if you could just read on, I'd really appreciate it...

As some of you will know, I recently embarked on my first solo trip - to Uganda, and many of you thought I was slightly mad(!)...

Whilst in Uganda, I volunteered with Soft Power Education Monday to Friday. During this time I experienced love, happiness and passion like no other. I didn't have a clue what to expect, but I will never forget it!

During my two weeks, I assisted in two pre-schools with children ages 3 - 7 years, taking them out of lessons and assisting with maths, English and arts and crafts. These children are some of the poorest in the villages, and without Soft Power, would not be able to learn and grow as they are. In Uganda, you need to be able to provide your own uniform, books, pencils etc - many people simply cannot afford this. Soft Power runs two schools, and the children are given a very snazzy t-shirt (you'll see them in the photos!), and shorts/skirt - all they ask is that they attend. The children are beautiful, vibrant, happy and so eager to learn and it's sad to think where they would be without this opportunity.

I was also fortunate enough to volunteer in a local special needs unit, which Soft Power also support. The children here are deaf, and board at the school. Things are different in Uganda, and some families haven't worked out how to cope with special needs or disabilities. The school provides a safe place for them to learn and have heaps of fun!

I covered all expenses (travel, accommodation, food) myself, took as much arts and crafts resources as I could, and have also donated to this fantastic charity.

But! I'd like to rally my generous friends and family and see what we can donate - it will make such a difference! The excitement these children get from a second hand pair of shorts, some glitter to make something with, or some new felt tips - really is heart warming - and we can help make that happen.
