Story
I decided to set myself a post-lockdown challenge. Autism affects 1 in 100 people so I will run 100km over 10 days to try and raise as much money as I can for Autistica, a charity funding research into autism.
Autism affects the way people communicate and experience the world around them; it is a spectrum of developmental conditions, including Asperger’s Syndrome. Every autistic person is different. Some are able to learn, live and work independently, while many have learning differences or co-occurring health conditions that require specialist support.
Autistica does not just want to raise money and fund research; they want their work to have real impact on autistic people's lives. Their mission: long, healthy, happy lives for every autistic person. Impact matters because autistic people still face some of the poorest life chances of any group in society. Autistica’s work aims to facilitate changes in policy, healthcare and awareness to try to address these unacceptable statistics.
I was a Trustee of this charity for 6 years and saw first-hand the great work that they do and the support that they provide for people with autism. This is a very worthwhile cause and I am looking forward to receiving as much support as you are able to provide.
My aim is to start 21 September and to complete the challenge by 30 September. I will log my runs on Strava so you can confirm I have done the mileage. I have posted a link to my running playlist (not approved by my children) as I name each run after a song (a totally random process).
