Story
At Silverhill Primary School we are hoping to build a sensory garden to bring our community together and to help tackle the huge demand now being place on us due to our children's mental health issues.
The garden will be dedicated to the memory of Sam Liews, a child from within our Reception class who sadly passed away earlier this year. Sam's parents hope to maintain connections to the school through the garden. We are also hoping that this garden can be used by local groups including Rainbows and Brownies as well as local residential homes to create a cohesive community where everyone is welcome.
A sensory garden is a garden environment that is designed with the purpose of stimulating the senses. This stimulation occurs courtesy of plants and the use of materials that engage one's senses of sight, smell, touch, taste, and sound. It may be used as a calming place and as a gentle way to stimulate the senses. Sensory gardens are
particularly beneficial to children with sensory processing issues, such as autism and other disabilities. We hope to also provide an area where gross motor skills can be developed for our younger children or those with core strength difficulties.
Thank you for taking the time to read this far! It would be amazing if you could support us to achieve this for our community.
