Story
The relentless destruction of Sumatra’s rain forests has pushed the Sumatran orangutan to the edge of extinction and with only around 14,600 remaining in the wild, the species is classified as Critically Endangered.
Committed to turning this around, the Sumatran Orangutan Society (SOS) protects orangutans, their forest and their future by:• supporting local people to improve their income at the same time as protecting the rain forests • rescuing orangutans and resolving conflicts between villages and orangutans • campaigning on issues threatening the survival of orangutans in the wild.• restoring damaged orangutan habitat through tree planting programmes.
I am running a half marathon on 7 June 2020 to raise funds for this incredible cause. Every small bit helps as only £5 pays for a new tree to be planted and nurtured to maturity and within 4 years an orangutan can build a nest there. All proceeds will go to this wonderful charity and the great work they do.
Please help SOS to protect Sumatran orangutans and their forests.
