Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
10 years ago, I did the virtual New York Marathon on a treadmill in The Marine Hotel. A decade on and thanks to a pandemic, so many things are now done ‘virtually’. Both these things got me thinking that I needed a new challenge. Something I would find hard. I know cycling is not for me as I fall off when turning left [long story] so I do not even try now. However, I do have a bike in the garage.
Just like that, the idea of a virtual Land’s End to John o’Groats [as the crow flies], on a bike, on a stand in my garage, was born. Without a purpose I know I will give up, so I am raising money for a local charity, Leuchie House. A fantastic charity that offers holiday and respite care for people living with a range of disabilities due to the long-term effects of a neurological condition such as MS, MND, Parkinson’s and Stroke.
My Mum used to go there for respite once a week after suffering a huge stroke. Several friends of mine love having holidays there too.
As co-founder of North Berwick Beach Wheelchairs I know from talking to disabled people and their families just how important having a holiday and doing normal things matter. Not to mention the
fabulous opportunity for carers to have a break too.
Believe me this challenge will not be easy. I am not that keen on spending time in the garage, peddling and going nowhere. My bum is even less keen.
My intention is to complete all 603 crow miles by Christmas eve 2020. I shall try to do a few miles more every day and hopefully build up my stamina. After the first few miles I am well aware that cycling hurts.
Please support me through the pain and donate to a fantastic cause.
Thank you.
