Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit Jack's JustGiving page in memory of Stuart King.
"In January 1948, Stuart King and I set off in a four-seater Miles Gemini aircraft on a pioneering survey across Central Africa. Leaving a wet, cold Croydon airport behind, we crossed Tunisia, Libya, Egypt, Sudan and Uganda to reach Nairobi - with little more than a map, compass and the River Nile as our guide. It wasn't a question of hope - we just went and did it!
"Today, MAF is the world's largest humanitarian airline, flying 124 aircraft across more than 25 low-income countries to help those in need. We could never have imagined what would become of one aircraft, two good-humoured RAF airmen, and a six-month mission.
"Sadly, my dear friend and best man Stuart passed away two years ago - aged 98. So I want to celebrate his 100th birthday in March 2022 by returning to the controls of a Miles Gemini and flying to raise money for the charity we pioneered, which became Stuart's life-long mission.
"Thank you for helping me keep his memory alive by donating towards MAF's work. MAF does a job that not many people can or want to do - living and flying in the bush to rescue those who are critically injured, or helping in a crisis like a pandemic or earthquake. Your gift will help MAF's small planes to reach people living in desperate situations like these, with no access to help.
"To me, MAF has become like the international Good Samaritan of the air - a community of people who put themselves out for others and take care of their future."
