Story
Thank you for sharing James' service with us and for taking the time to visit this JustGiving page.
Around 8 months ago James began to struggle with his mental health. He put up a tremendous fight before ending his life in February of this year. There are no words to capture his resilience and bravery whilst he fought for hope. There are also no words to capture the deep pain and devastation we feel over the loss of our wonderful James.
Again, we would like to thank everyone who loved James, everyone who walked beside James in his struggles and darkest moments and everyone who continues to walk alongside us in our grief.
James reached out for help, however the right support was not made available to him. This is the reason we are choosing to send the donations collected from James' funeral to a charity (coincidently) called 'James' Place.'
James’ Place exists to save the lives of men in suicidal crisis. The charity offers free, life-saving treatment to men in suicidal crisis at centres in Liverpool and London. With funding they are planning to open 3 new centres in the UK over the next 3 years.
James' Place provides:
-Quick and free access
-A safe environment where men are cared for and respected
-One-to-one therapy delivered by suicide prevention therapists
-Help with finding appropriate longer-term support if required
Men can self-refer by clicking 'get support' on the James' Place website (https://www.jamesplace.org.uk/), or can be referred by family members, friends or by a health professional.
James' Place was set up by Clare and Nick in 2006 after their 21-year-old son, James, died by suicide. Both young men sought urgent help for anxiety and suicidal thoughts, but did not find it. James' Place bridges this gap and makes the experience of finding help as easy as possible. Through choosing this charity we hope it can expand so that help is available for every man facing a suicidal crisis.
Thank you for your donations and to Clare Milford and Nick Wentworth-Stanley for setting up this charity.
